Still Hi! Thanks for your answer. Just to be sure, if I compile with source, does the installation will update my emacs currently installed? Does I need to uninstall or it will update? Thanks Martin

I use emacs. This program is one of the program that is running a lot of time on my computer. I have suse linux 7.3 pro and I want to update to the most recent version of emacs. Someone can tell me where can I find RPM of emacs for suse linux. I tried some general rpm and after that emacs crashed each time I wanted to use it and it didn't start.
I downloaded emacs-21.1.tar.gz and leim-21.1.tar.gz and compiled emacs from source:
./configure make make install
There were no problems on SuSE 7.3. (BTW, handling of MIME in Gnus is much better in 21.1.)
There is no doubt RPM packages are easier to install but if they are not tailored for SuSE 7.3 then problems may occur.
