Assuming that you are using KDE, did you check the mixer to see that the CD
sound is turned on?

Hi All, Read and tried most everything for days. I'm just not getting anywhere. Even wrote to Suse on Sunday, still waiting on them.
Need help with sound card and cd playback of audio disks. Have Compaq 5WV 270 with sound on system board (Sound Max). Suse recognizes the chip as AC97. I get sound on wav, midi, and regular sound. Can't play store bought Audio CD's..
keep getting the following message in the console
Linux modprobe:modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Linux modprobe:modprobe: can"t locate sound-service-1-0
Since some sounds play I have tried to config the /dev/cdrom
ls -l /dev/cdrom chmod 640 /dev/hdc chgrp disk /dev/hdc
This doesn't work either. (Under Mandrake audio cds played)
