Hi Nick, The /boot/vmlinuz kernel is I believe a standard vanilla kernel, generated from pure 2.3.?? sources from kernel.org. SuSE have created some extensions/enhancements to the base kernel. The /boot/vmlinuz.suse is a kernel generated from these patched sources. Does anyone know what the difference is between the /boot/vmlinuz and /boot/vmlinuz.suse kernel images and their respective lilo entries? Just curious . . .
AFAIK, I believe the suse kernal is there in case you make a mess of your "linux" kernel. I have had to boot with it before and it bailed me out.
Yes indeed, you should leave it alone and keep an entry for it in your lilo.conf, it will save your bacon one day. Likewise don't mess with the /lib/modules/'version'-GB, or the initrd.suse. -- Regards Cliff -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq and the archives at http://lists.suse.com -- The content of this e-mail is confidential, may contain privileged material and is intended solely for the recipient(s) named above.
