Hello, [..snip..]
But since she lives so far away, I would like to know and learn what to set up so that I can dial in to the router/gateway to handle any problems but yet maintain a secure setup. I do not want to use smoothwall, as I know linux is more secure for this venture, so please don't suggest it.
I have done it using "OpenSSH". If ran the SSH daemon on
startup, (from your sister's router/gateway), then you
would then be able to SSH into her machine.
Note: in order for this to work, you'll have to have SSH
running on YOUR box as well.
You will also have to make sure that your sister's linux
box has a fully qualified hostname (FQHN) which can be
recognised externally.
If you need anymore information, let me know,
Regards,
