There is a difference about the SCSI emulation for an IDE device(CD-RW) and the SCSI support for specific SCSI devices like your scanner, which is connected to a SCSI card. They uses different modules in the kernel. Your CD-RW must use the sg or sr module. Try '/sbin/modprobe sg.o'. If you get module can't be found you must enable this option in your kernel, as it is described in the links I gave you in the last mail. You might also try to load the sr module. When I run 'lsmod | grep sg' I just get the command prompt back. There is no sign of sg in the output of 'lsmod' Surely all modules must be loaded as I have a scsi scanner, and 'cdrecord' works as long as I put 'hdd=ide-scsi' in the boot prompt. Peter
What is interesting is to see if your sg module is loaded and if Generic SCSI support and SCSI emulation is enabled in your kernel. If it is not you must recompile your kernel with these enabled as modules.
Some info on that here: http://www.service911.com/elinux/step/0,,127+24366+17342,00.html http://www.service911.com/elinux/step/0,,26155+25438+23288,00.html
Can you find sg when you run lsmod? e.g. with:
'lsmod | grep sg'

Hi,
What is the output of this?
cat /proc/modules
It says among many other things 'ide-scsi 7856 0'
and
uname -a
linux 2.4.4-GB #1 Fri May 18 14:11:12 GMT 2001 i686 unknown
