Dear Colin, I have a setup running it over RH 7.1, and it runs smoothly without any problem. I believe it is just the same for SuSE. First of all, you should check what SCSI devices are recognised by the Kernel, by checking the kernel file : cat /proc/scsi/scsi Depending on which and how many SCSI controllers and devices you have on the system, the output should be different for different configuration. Check whether the kernel recognised your tape drive as well as the tape changer hardware properly. To check if the tape drive can be access properly, try the command : mt -f /dev/st0 status It should then display : SCSI 2 tape drive: File number=0, block number=0, partition=0. Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code 0x26 (unknown to this mt). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (41010000): BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN Then, you have to install the "mtx" package to manipulate the tape changer. This package can be found from the SuSE CD, and the latest version should be 1.2.10. So, please install the "mtx-1.2.10-1.i386.rpm" package. After that, try the command : mtx -f /dev/sg1 status Note the device "/dev/sg1", it is the tape changer device (if you see the tape changer device listed inside /proc/scsi/scsi as LUN 1, it is /dev/sg1). Then, you can try the command : "mtx -f /dev/sg1 load 3" to load tape #3 inside the cartridge. For other command options, check "mtx --verson". To backup your data, try "tar cf /dev/st0 <your files to be backup>". At last, as most people would do, create an alias with "ln -s /dev/st0 /dev/tape" so that you can use a more generic device name to access the tape drive. That's it. Regards, Raymond. Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with connecting the Dell PowerVault 120T DDS Autoloader to a Suse 7.2 installation. During the reboot of the machine, I can see that the device is identified by the SCSI array, but I can't seem to access it at all once I've logged in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Colin
