Hi; I have an Asus A7V motherboard with a 1GHz Athlon Thunderbird. The Athlon rarely rises above 50 Celsius on hot days. I've recently flashed the BIOS to Iverson 8, and things seem OK. I hope they do fix the HLT problem, with there next BIOS flash. I may sent Asus an e-mail myself asking why they've done this. On Tuesday 18 September 2001 9:52 am, you wrote:
Sorry for the OT post, But I want to warn everyone not to buy Asus motherboards for Athlons. They have been crippled by Asus itself to disable the HLT instruction.
Because of this your Athlon will run at hight temps even when idle. If you already own a board with this problem, please contact me, I'm trying to establish a group of dissatisfied users to make Asus resolve this, or recall the boards.
Kind regards
Guy
