Somewhere or other, quite a while ago, I saw a program that does the same thing as xcolors, only better and more conveniently, i.e., it shows you the color associated with each name in the X rgb color map. Can anyone point me to it? I tried to locate it via both freshmeat and google but failed.
You may be looking for a Gnome utility, gcolorsel. (If you've got Gnome installed, it should be in /opt/gnome/bin; if you're running Gnome, look under Programs -> Utilities -> Color Browser). It's a big improvement over xcolors -- it has a scrollbar, and you can change the View properties to display decimal or hex values in 8 or 16 bits or floating point values. You can also search for colors. A few of the earlier versions I used were a bit unstable when I used the search function, but the latest one I've tried, v1.4.0, seems much better. Daniel
