Sorry... forgot one thing. Once the MD module and RAId personality are compiled in, the other thing is to change the partition type on the hard disk from type 83 (Linux) to FD (RAID Autodetect). At least this is all I have had to do to get it going. Good luck. - Herman Alex Daniloff wrote:
Hello Herman, Thank you for your response. From what you're saying I understood that if I enable RAID support and RAID-0 (striping) mode in the kernel it'll detect RAID-0 automatically upon boot up. I tried it and it didn't work. In order to mount md0 / partition on bootup, kernel must detect this Raid-0 partition automatically because /etc/fstab is not available at this time yet. The only non Raid-0 partition available is /boot Would you mind please be more specific where in the kernel or elsewhere I can find this MD module you've mentioned below. By the way, the kernel which has been included in SuSE7.1 distro had this RAID auto detection module. I used it and it did work. Now my question is where I can find this module for a plain 2.4.9 kernel from kernel.org site. Thank you in advance for any help. Alex

I went through this already... you need to recompile the kernel and include the MD module and the RAID personality that you wish to use.
