My 7.1 based box is working quite well save for the fact that I can't print out of netscape. I've been told by a linux techie at my ISP that I should upgrade the kernel to 2.4.5. As I am still very new to Linux, can someone advise me as to the best way to so do without disrupting what I now have working well otherwise?
tnx,
dave Its reasonable to think a kernel upgrade could fix access to an usb device. Its hard to swallow that U can access the printer directly, not thru netscape. Netscape launches a command, and on all the versions I know U have control of which command is used to print. on Netscape 4.7 (my current version), the Netscape print command pops up a window, with the shell print command used, in a text box, U can change it. Just fill with the command that works on the command line (I mean under shell), maybe caring for environment variables defining target printer or option... Its hard to tell any more, dunno wether u use CUPS or regular

Im no beginner, kernel update is not something a beginner should do by
himself, a guy offered U his support, dont do it without a serious
support, and a serious backup. But maybe after all kernel update is
now something easy, and Im cautious for no reason...
