Since dicovering that hdparm can be used to set the dvd's dma, even though yast2 says it can't, I've been able to watch dvds in linux, and it works quite well. However, in xine, I can't seem to get it to play discs from another region.
Searching the net, all I can find are HOWTOs and FAQs that tell me that the disk is probably from another region - well, duh :)
Now, I can watch the dvds in VLC, so I know it's not a hardware restriction (unfortunately vlc has other problems, such as audio/video synchronisation, but it could be an option in the future).
So the question is: has anyone been able to get xine to play DVDs from a region other than their default, and if so how?

I believe they will point you to the css library. Although do be careful as my Xine had been segfaulting a lot with Xine.

http://xine.sourceforge.net/ I believe they will point you to the css library. Although do be careful as my Xine had been segfaulting a lot with Xine. Matt The css library enables you to watch encrypted dvds not dvds from another region. You can get xine rpms for suse including css patch from here: http://packman.links2linux.de/ That is what I am using here and it works fine. To watch region free dvds you need to change the drive to region free. I suggested a way to do that in my earlier post.
