I am sorry if this creates a huge thread but I think it was time to bring up this question again. A few months ago people asked if SuSE could switch over to the debian package format. It was mentioned that considerations were made towards/against this. I wonder where we now stand on this. I like to see a switch towards deb being made. I figure with gcc 3.0 being released and probably being used for SuSE 8.0 it would be the perfect time to as well make the packaging switch at the same time. I would welcome this. So far SuSE packages are something created in house and a mystery to the general user as they are not general RedHat packages either. I think switching over to deb would move the packages back into the general user domain and as well prove SuSE was interested in setting/using standards and not contributing to creating special branches of a good which is useless for other(-distro) Linux users. Fact is I like to see some of the special(-distro) package formats out there die and a (one or two) standard(s) appear. With efforts as the LSB moving ahead strongly I just don't see why SuSE should have a special package format. mk _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
