Hi, I'm getting impatient waiting for Ximian to come up with a 1.4 version of Gnome for SuSE 7.1. I assume that my alternatives are either getting regular Gnome 1.4 from the SuSE FTP site or building it myself from source. Which is the best way? I am fairly new to SuSE but I've been a Slackware user since 93. This RPM thing is kind of new to me. What is the best way to install from source? Should I install the next executables over the top of the old (usually in the /usr tree) or install them in /usr/local and ignore what's in /usr? In the past Gnome has been a bitch to compile because there are so many libraries and strange dependencies. Is this still the case? I'd like to install a nice little RPM if it's available. Thanks, --Gary
