Hello
Do you know why depmod doesn't work with SuSe 7.0 or 7.1 with any 2.4 kernels. Only their RPM which is depmod version 2.4.1 seems to work.
The depmod in 2.4.5 modutils gives me errors like:
depmod version 2.4.5 depmod: Module /lib/modules/2.4.0-4GB/kernel/drivers/media/video/cpia_usb.o has an unknown version (2) usb_device table It is likely that the kernel structure has changed, if so then you probably need a new version of modutils to handle this kernel. Check linux/Documentation/Changes.
It seems to be not able to create a modules.dep in the /lib/modules/ subdirectory.
There was a change relating to USB table format in release 2.4.2 of modutils. Or, so it says in the ChangeLog file in the sources. So it's possible that cpia_usb.o is using an incompatible format. If you don't need that driver, then remove it from your kernel configuration. FYI the modules.dep and friends get installed in /lib/modules/2.4.0-4GB/ PS. Why are you using modutils 2.4.5? The one that came with the installtion CDs (if you are running suse 7.1) should work fine. Don't change this core utilities just for the hell of it. The suse people tested the distro with those utilities, they do a very good job at that, so unless something is broken I would suggest you slow your pace. -- Rafael
