Hi John: The easiest way to do this IMHO is go to: http://www.suse.com/en/support/download/updates/71_i386.html 1) determine the relevant updates by typing rpm -q y2base. If that command returns "y2base*" then you need to install it. 2) Create a directory and download the needed rpms. 3) Start yast1 and select Packlage Management (Updates, Installation, Queries) 4) Arrow down to Install Packages 5) At Source (None) hit enter 3 times to arrive at / (root) 6) Arrow down to home and hit enter again. Arrow down until you get to your user directory. Then Find the directory you stored all those rpms in. 7) Using the arrow key and the space bar move down the list of rpms placing an X in front of each one. 8) When you have selected all the RPM's hit F10. 9) afterwards hit esc. As you exit YAST1, it will update your config files. I prefer to have the RPM updates stored on my box in case I need to reinstall them later. On Monday 16 April 2001 21:10, you wrote:
I am a SuSE convert from the Debian fold. I have SuSE 7.1 installed and running tolerably well, but the manual isn't clear on using YAST or YAST2 to fetch and install the latest upgrades and tweaks to the system. Could some kind soul explain how to do this with YAST?
Does it work like APT? (Yes, I know, one can always wish.)
TIA
John
