From my experience browsing the archives of various linux lists over the past week or so, it seems that quite a few people, myself included, have been downloading the FTP tree at ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.1/ with the aim of burning some sort of sensible, usable and portable cd version of the distro. For the most part when said illustious souls have sought out information on how to recreate the cd layouts on discs (i.e what to put on which disc), they have been, quite helpfully, advised of alternative solutions--install from hd, etc. It seems that many people would still prefer to recreate the cds--if only for the purposes of storage and for future installs. The question is--are the relevant CD contents files not simply the INDEX.GZ, LS-LR.GZ and TRANS.TBL files in the top level directory of each cd? The files shouldn't be more that about 150k each--(the 1st two are 38k and 151k, from the FTP tree, but relate, obviously enough, to the ftp versions' contents). I've seen .txt files somewhere on the internet, probably a personal website, which claim to be the contents for each of 7.0 CDs and the format and content of each text file seem equivalent to a combination of the information that would be contained in ls-lr.gz and index.gz for each CD. Unfortunately I can't seem to find that same website, as they may have subsequently provided listings for the 7.1 edition. Anyhow, I believe that EACH CD should have INDEX.GZ, LS-LR.GZ and TRANS.TBL in addition to its 'true' contents. If this is so, would it be possible for one of you kind people with a full boxed version of Suse 7.1 Professional to please make those files available to those of us who have requested assisstance in rebuilding the CD distro, either by email or by temporary posting somewhere on the net/uopload to ftp? I believe these files, at worst, in combination with the info in lhdsetup.bat in ../dosutils/ , would go a long way toward enabling a fair rebuild of the cd structure. I have no idea what the TRANS.TBL files are but they are not in the FTP tree so I assume they are CD specific and maybe useful as well. I apologize for the wordiness. I tried to get as many keywords in there so that others searching for similar info would have an easier time than I did (just in case this thread leads tot workable solutiion). Thanks very much, in advance, for any assisstance in obtaining these files.
P.S Would I burn the CDs in JOLIET or ISO9660 format? I thought ISO9660, but EZ CD creator 3.5 limits my files/ folders to 8.3 format and the option for long file names is greyed out. Everything I'm doing is within M$ WinBlows. Please note: I do not actually have either the CD or DVD editions of the 7.0 or 7.1 disributions, just the full ftp download (not live-eval). My deductions are based on analysis of the the top level INDEX.GZ and LS-LR.GZ of the ftp 7.1 distribution and comparision with the contents listing of CDs 1-6 of 7.0 Pro, which I got off the net. If I am way off base, then I apologize for sounding so sure of myself. Again thanks in advance. Terry
