sigh. I don't have a problem with installed kernel mis judging my ram. I have a problem with the 6.4 CD 1 misjudging my ram.
yes. But also the boot disk / CD boots a kernel, doesn't it? ;-) Juergen
all of this wouldn't be needed if SuSE wasn't so stupid to put a limit on ram needed for an ftp install.

I am still wondering about my memory problem. A machine has 128 Meg of
ram.
When booted up via 6.4 CD 1 it only recognizes 64 meg. This prevents me from doing an FTP install of 7.1
Could I:
1. install 6.4 on the HD 2. alter /etc/lilo.conf (to boot from CD and append mem=128) 3. put in 6.4 CD and on lilo let it boot off of it and have it forced now recognize the 128 MB Ram?
try to add mem=128M at the lilo prompt like
lilo: linux mem=128M
(or what ever the install kernel is named. "manual" for instance.

Would this work?
What would the lilo.conf entry look like?
image = /cdrom/suse/vm_linuz???? root = /dev/hdc label = cdrom append ="mem=128"
