I thought the list might be interested in this feedback from SuSE support, since it points up an error in Yast2: SuSE Support wrote:You wrote:
Under Networking, Yast2 has a selection for starting and stopping inetd. Each time I go to it, the setting is "don't start inetd". I set it to the second alternative (default) and click "finish". It appears that nothing has happened, and if i go back again to the selection, it is again set to "don't start".
Thank you very much for your feedback. I forwarded your information to the developers of YaST2.
How can I get the setting to be accepted?
At the moment there is no possibility to change this setting via this selection in YaST2.
In the default configuration of SuSE Linux 7.1 inetd is set to get started automatically. If this is the setting you want, there should be no need to change anything.
The setting regarding the automatic start of inetd is stored in /etc/rc.config and can be changed with the RC.Config-editor of YaST2, with YaST or with your favourite editor. The variable which controls the start of inetd is called "START_INETD".
