I complained about this before too. They should create a list of mirrors and allow us to switch to one of our choice. But SuSE is still so CD centric. Check out this file: /var/lib/YaST/update.inf at the end it has reference to default ftp server. mk

To: SuSE listserve Subject: [SLE] Yast1: changing the default FTP update location Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2001 11:27:45 -0400 Under "Install Packages", Yast1 has a facility for updating via FTP. When you bring it up, you get the location of the update directory (for 7.1) at the SUSE website. Trouble is, it's often overloaded so the attempt dies, and you have to back out and in again. You can specify a different location, but it's a pain.
I'd like to change that default location to download.sourceforge.net, which SuSE officially recommends as a mirror and is much more available (also faster). I've been searching all around my system for references to ftp.suse.com (using "grep -r") but still haven't found the one that makes a difference. How can I change that default location?
Changing the "installation source" is irrelevant here; the installation source is unrelated to the update source (a subtle point not made clear by SuSE documentation).
I asked about this once before but didn't get an answer that worked, so I'm trying again.
