I had the same problem. Make sure the volume for the cd is turned up under the Sound Mixer. K->Multimedia->Sound Mixer. On Wednesday 04 April 2001 16:56, you wrote:

First place to look, I'd say, is that little cable that connects your CDROM drive to your sound card. If it's not there (or reversed), then you'll get no sound.
If you happen also to be running Windows, I'd suggest seeing if you can play CDs under Windows. If not, it's a hardware problem; if so, it's a software problem.
