I have SuSE 7.0 on a laptop connected to a server cable modem out to my ISP. When in Yast1 or Yast2, if I define the ISPs nameserver addresses then I cannot get out to any network, including my in house server. I also receive a console log message that I might have a ethernet cable problem.
If I remove the nameserver addresses I can get anywhere as long as I use a dot.four address in my browser, no name resolution. I have tried all combinations I can think of.
You mean that if you specify your ISP's nameserver within YaST, you can't use your browser with IP addresses? Strange. Is your routing set up correctly? Do you have an internal caching DNS server that you can use? The first place I'd look is the routing table (and /etc/rc.config, to see if anything has changed there) for both situations.
