When I tried to use the zip drive from a friend in england last year, I think I stumbled over the same error. Newer Zip drives do not use the ppa driver anymore, but the "imm" module. (If I got the name right) Anyway, amongst these boot messages (could also be in "dmesg" or var/log/messages) there is a hint to the other driver.
