Beware too if you have are running SCSI hard disks, you will need to setup initrd, otherwise you will get a Kernel panic as it searches for your hard drives. Matt On Saturday 03 February 2001 12:48 pm, Cliff Sarginson wrote:

I would like to compile my own kernel. SuSE comes with a few already compiled kernels and I would like to use their configuration map for compiling my own kernel.
In other words; I don't know what all the options are. SuSE does. I would like to make a couple of modifications to the kernel I currently run and would like a file to "Load Configuration from File" when running "make xconfig". Does anyone know if these files exist or how I might make them?
You have to be just a little careful here, with the general config file from Suse it should be ok, but be aware that enabling one option often enables/disables others..so a pre-canned config file still needs to be used with a bit of care.
it's actually quite interesting and educational to go through the whole config yourself, many of the questions give advice on how to answer them !
Good luck Cliff
