As it turns out, the new tulip/pci-scan module combo does not work right with the linksys v2.0 NICs. This was new to me anyway. I slapped in a v4.0 linksys NIC and it worked fine. I thought about getting an older driver but decided this would end up being more of a pain later on during reinstalls etc. Thanks for the responses. Marty Galyean wrote:
i never hit that before or heard of it. quota not installed. what 'file size limit' are you referring to?
its just too global and only via the network; ftp, smb cp, etc. even as root. even web pages that are greater than 12 or 13 meg fail to continue loading after some point. and the size isn't constant.
i think its the nic. buffer overrun or something in hardware. its a cheapo netgear tulip clone. tried the new driver, didn't help.
going to grab a trusy linksys tomorrow from home and try that.
thanks for the response!

Just a long shot - you may be hitting some sort of quota or per process file size limit.

I have installed SuSE 7.0 on a dual celeron mobo with standard ide. I am trying to get a large file onto the box and have attempted several things all of which fail.
When I ftp to the linux box from the w2k box and do a 'put', about 12M writes, then the the connection times out.
When I samba mount the w2k box and do a 'cp' about 12M writes than the cp process hangs until I -KILL it (I've waited up to an hour, it never gets beyond 12M or so).
No messages in the log or anything.
Am suspecting IDE probs in SMP kernel.
Any ideas?
Rgds, Marty
