I have SuSE Linux 6.4 with a 500 MHz Celeron, 12.6 GB HD, and a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI graphics card. Everything works fine except for the graphics card. When I went through the initial install, everything was going fine, then I got to the setting up X11 part. I chose my settings I wanted, then tested them, nothing would come up on the screen, my monitor light would just blink, so I hit the ESC key. Of course, Yast2 wouldn't let me go past, it kept telling me to test my settings. Finally after testing a few more times, the ESC key wouldn't even work, so I had to do a hard reboot. I rebooted and booted up Linux from LILO and Yast2 came back up. This time I chose not to setup X11, and use SAX later. When I started Sax, the only choices I had at 16bpp or higher was 640x480 screen resolution. I have a 15" monitor that will do 1024x768 with this same card with no problem in Windows. Now, I know it's not SuSE's fault (I don't think), or Linux. Is it because I don't have the right driver installed? I installed the SVGA driver (the one it recommended). With Caldera eDesktop, this card works just fine at 1024x768 at 24bpp. I hope someone can help, thanks in advance.
Have you tried configuring XFree with xf86config? Up to now it always worked for me. Ciao, Stefan
