Subject: tar restore of win98 and portugese
I'm trying to rebuild a dual boot disk containing Win98 and SuSe6.4.
I've done this many times with no problems. This particular win98
partition has some software on it for a brazilian national. It is
brazilian software. This software will not restore from the tape.
The error I get is that it cannot create the directory. I get the
feeling that my problem has something to do with language support
in the kernel. When I tarred it from the disk there were no error
messages. I hope that means that the data is on the tape and all I
got to do is figure out how to get it off.
Here is the exact error below:
tar: win98/windows/Start Menu/Programs/Programas SRF2000/IRPF -
Declara\207?o de Ajuste Anual: Cannot mkdir: Invalid argument
tar: win98/windows/Start Menu/Programs/Programas SRF2000/IRPF -
Declara\207?o de Ajuste Anual/IRPF

directory
tar: win98/windows/Start Menu/Programs/Programas SRF2000/IRPF -
Declara\207?o de Ajuste Anual/Leia_me IRPF2000.lnk: Cannot open: No such
file or directory
tar: win98/windows/Start Menu/Programs/Programas SRF2000/IRPF -
Declara\207?o de Ajuste Anual/Ajuda IRPF2000.lnk: Cannot open: No such
file or directory
tar: win98/windows/Start Menu/Programs/Programas SRF2000/IRPF -
Declara\207?o de Ajuste Anual/Desinstalar IRPF2000.lnk: Cannot open: No
such file or directory
tar: win98/windows/Favorites/SITE MARCOLINO Brasil S?o Paulo.url: Cannot
open: Invalid argument
tar: win98/Eudora/Attach/RELA\200?O DOS CI.doc: Cannot open: Invalid
argument
I have nls-codepages 437 850 855 and 860 and nls-iso-8859-1 and
nls-iso-8859-15 set to yes in my kernel. I beleive 860 is for portuguese
support. Am I even on the right track here. I think in the above error
message that the "\207?o de..." is pointing me to a language thing.
Is the ? there because it doesn't know what else to put there.
Can anyone shed any light on this please. The guy needs to pay his
taxes.
Thanks in advance..
