I have a username account1 that account has email What file are the emails in? I want to access the email in account1 from a program that I write myself? Generally incoming mail will be put into a file called
/var/spool/mail/account1 Where it goes after that depends on what mail reader you use when you read it, of if your mail reader picks it up out of spool and puts it into your inbox, or into some other file if you are filtering the mail in some way. In any case under a normal configuration your mail will be in folders under ~/Mail. Depending again on what you do and how you use your email reader you may also be using the folder "mbox". In general, if you run no email reader and are going to deal with your mail in some mysterious way of your own you will need to look in the above named file in spool/mail. I hope you are not planning to use this information for any nefarious purpose ! I am wondering what you are planning to do ... Cliff p.s. the above description is of how mail is setup in general. That is not to say it will be the same on your system.
