I think all you need to do is: echo kde2 > ~/.wmrc and the next time you log in with kdm, kde2 should be the default after you type in your username.

Try changing the following entry in your /etc/rc.config file, should do what you want. DEFAULT_WM="kde2"
havn't tried it personally, but it seems logical that that would do it. Let me know if it works.
