Ok...I need some money and help. For the time being lets focus on the help. I have a SuSE 7.0 Installation on a SMP machine. As you know 7.0 has the 2.2.16 kernel shipping with it. (Allthough the cd I installed from didn't have the source). Anyway I found the source and tried to run xconfig to set it up. The thing is that I have a RealTeck Ethernet card that is using the 8139 chip so it needs the rtl8139.o module. What is strange is that the option to select RealTeck support is greyed out...and whatever I try I cannot make them enabled/active. What gives? Does anyone know? If I manage to get the compiled binary from another machine that runs SuSE 7.0 and copy it on the /lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ will it work? Because believe it or not the default installation of SuSE 7.0 comes with this binarry.....
It should work. Just be sure to run "depmod -a" in /lib/modules/<kernel version> before you reboot. You will also probably need to add a line to your /etc/conf.modules for that module.
