Ah, this interests me greatly - I had the same problem, dpms just disappeared in KControl when I installed 6.4 on my mother's machine - no idea why, it had been there before. How can sax2 bring that back, surely it only sets up the XF86free config file? If that's the case, perhaps we can add it as an 'option' section ourselves? never successfully solved my problem. Actually, if you search the list archives you will find answers to my problem from SuSE's members. In brief, go through sax2 and in the advance section make sure that DPMS is enabled.
