Hi Miguel I am not sure if Linux has anything to do with it. For instance, my linux box a CD-ROM drive and CDRW (cdwriter) drive. The CDROm reads the cdrw disks without any problem. However when I try in a different linux box (on the my lab) the CDROM there won't accept the disk. I guess, perhaps I am wrong (please do send a reply in case I am), that your CDROm won't read the cdrw disk no matter what you do.
Wrong!!!! From all the information I gathered you're not exactly right. Old cd-rom won't probably be capable of reading rw cds but newer one's shouldn't have any problems with them. However the rw cd's written with DirectCD in Win98 are not iso9660 compliant. They have a new filesystem called udf(universal disk format). Depending on the way you are recording your rw cds, on the drive which reads them and on the support for udf in your kernel then you may or may not read them. If your home system doesn't have a problem with rw cds then probably you have a newer drive and/or kernel support for the udf filesystem. In the lab you either have an older drive or the kernel is missing the udf support. I don't know if the standard SuSE kernel already has support for this because I always compile my own kernels... If you need more info on this new filesystem just follow the link: http://www.trylinux.com/projects/udf/index.html It is extremely easy to install the udf module. This solved my problem. Now my linux system reads rw cds on the fly!!!! Future releases of the kernel should probably include support for this filesystem. Hope this helps you......
