Hi, have you used Sax2 to set up your config file?
Also, try running 'XFree86 -configure' to generate a
baseline config file. Also, don't worry about the
Speedo fault, mine wouldn't work either. But, as
mentioned below, you REALLY need to look at the log
file. You will probably find some clues there. My
guess, is a hosed config file, providing the driver is
without issues.

Hi,
I have been trying to install XFree86 4.01 and
my Geforce2 card.
I have installed 4.01 and the driver, and then run xf86config, and changed the driver via VI to the NVidia driver.
When I type startx.. I get the following error:
Fatal server error: Caught signall 11. Server aborting.
also seems to error on could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/ , removing from

Anyone got any ideas, I have been trying for
nearly a week.
I do not know about this card, but I do have a GeForce 256. Is the driver loaded, type 'lsmod'. You should NVdriver in the list. There are two versions of the kernel driver, one is for 4.0 the other for 4.01. Make sure you have the right one. Also look in /var/log/XFree86.0.log or the latest log for details on the startup, or do your own: 'startx > startx.log 2>&1'
Hope this helps.
