[SLE] How can I match UIDs on multiple boxes?

Howdy, Aside from using a (NIS?) server, does anyone have a recommended way to make UIDs match on more then one Box? basically we only have a few Linux boxes here, and networking (such as NFS) will be a whole lot easier if the UIDs match. We will want the same users to have shells on each box. Of course if I have to I'll just compare them one at a time and set 'em up that way, but I thought surely someone else has done this before.
