In my opinion, SMPEG is the best (free) MPEG player out there.

I noticed smpeg requires SDL MPEG Player Library. Was this easy to install? Comments.
I'll give you an ultra-easy way: the SuSE way! Just put the first CD of your SuSE 6.4 set in the CD-ROM drive, fire up YaST, go to "Choose/Install packages", go to "Package Information", hit F9, search for smpeg, and in the next screen you see package smpeg. Choose it, hit F10, choose "Auto" to install missing packages, and there you go! You'll have to insert CD 3 somewhere along the way too. The installed programs are plaympeg and gtv. Finally I can play now mpeg files, with correct colors and sound! Thanks for the hint. But now I get to the difficult part (for me, that is): in KDE, how do I make kfm recognize extension .mpeg and start plaympeg automatically when I click on a *.mpeg file? I've read the kfm help, but it's not of any help to me!
