Yup. That's what I said in a previous post. While SuSE is the best distro out there, I though Linux had a lot more of a competitive edge when it took advantage of the fact that the software was free to offer dirt cheap boxed CD-ROM sets. I could go to CompUSA and choose from SuSE, RedHat, or Caldera for $20-$30 bucks - now a new user (who would want manuals - and wouldn't know he could order a SuSE upgrade version over the 'net anyway) won't get Linux for under 60 bucks. That's a lot of money, and for the hobbist or soho business to pay just to try a really nice Linux distro. It's still cheaper by far and a way versus Windows, but I don't think we're in the good 'ol Linux days anymore. I guess what really gets me is the fact, not that SuSE isn't worth it, but that the Pro edition (which has basically only what I paid $29 for) is now $59 - not the price itself. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Has SuSE gone completely mad!
As I understand it, the equivalent of what we now know as SuSE would be the professional version. You know, you need only to buy the distro to have all those programs you like so much.
But the professional costs about 70$... I use SuSE mainly at home, running an apache web server to test my home-berwed cgi-scripts etc.
As I see it, the professional is little more than a diet version of what we're used to, which is useless.
I'm afraid SuSE is going much the same way as redhat, which was why I initially switched from RH to SuSE.
Does anyone else feel that way too?
