I have creative encore 2x drive which didn't work (couldn't read the DVD) with the SuSE 6.3 DVD edition, but was ok with 6.4. Go figure! Once SuSE was installed I had no problems. I have creative Dxr2 decoder card which works with the opensource drivers from creative. There are two front ends, one GNOME and the other KDE. There is another project working on support for the Dxr3, and they seem to work. I think this is based on a realmagic card, so expect support sometime along that projects road. As for software decoding... The only software decoder I know of atm, is the Livid project. It is rummoured to run, but requires a beefy proc to do the work. Intervideo (which brought you WinDVD) are meant to be doing a LinDVD product but so far no dates have been announced. And finally, ATI are rumoured to be working on drivers for their video cards allowing hardware DVD decoding, so sometime hopefully these will arrive. Hope all that helps RikD "Fred A. Miller" wrote:
What's the collective experience with IDE DVD drives....what drivers work with 6.4?
Thanks!
