Personally, I copy yhe .bashrc and .profile to my root directories, seems a shame that there isn't one installed as defaults since the /etc/profile contins several lines for checking the UID. Just do the same and skim through it and remove things that you feel may compromise the system by being there (not much in them to do that though).
