[SLE] properly setting up an admin account

Are there any recommendations on properly setting up a admin account? I don't want to always have to use su to do things with the computer and yet i don't want to be able to mess with some of the more important files. Basically i'm looking for something that can start and stop services, mount stuff, do a little user/group admin and check logs.
