Arlen and Chris, Thanks for your suggestions. I was at wits end trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. I'm not sure what finally did it, but I did one more depmod -a, ran ksoundserver manually, and volia, it now works! I can't figure out why that was, or why, until this last modification, the AU8820 driver would only load via a manual modprobe command... but at least it works. Thanks again... -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. listen... Two days before I leave on a trip, I upgrade SuSE Linux 6.4. And now my sound card, that worked in 6.1, doesn't work. It started well enough, YaST2 detected all of the hardware, etc. (even my supposedly supported sound card), but apparently ALSA which YaST2 (I find out) uses doesn't support my card. So, I go back and re-install my old driver from
But I didn't linux.aureal.com (It's
a Turtle Beach Montego), and things like XMMS and wavplay start to work - but still no KDE system sounds! Is there something that got messed up since YaST2 tried to setup a card it doesn't support? Sorry to be rambling...
Have a look in the /opt/kde/bin/startkde script to see if the following lines are uncommented (they should be near the bottom): startifaudio kaudioserver & startifaudio kwmsound &
The above lines do rely on your sound drivers using the /dev/sndstat interface. If there's still a problem after the above lines are uncommented, then check /dev/sndstat (by doing a 'cat /dev/sndstat'). If there isn't a line that says "Audio devices:", but audio still works, then try taking out the "startifaudio" from in front of the two lines above.
Hope that helps, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
