Go the full upgrade , it has six cds , compared to the demo one , wich is only one cd. Doesent have much , the os , netscape and some other stuff. You can get a list of ewhats on the set from www.suse.com , and compare it to the LSL 2.00 dsingle disk . The full ed also comes with a nice manual and tech suport. It goes for around $29.99 in the US at comp usa and the other big stores. If you can , format the drive and do a full new clean istall. This is easier if you keep you data on a seperate drive. ie mount /dev/hdb as /data and put all the data on that drive. Then you only have to update the system os and software to your first drive. File this under stupid/newbie questions:
I'm running 6.2--I would like to upgrade to at least 6.3 or even 6.4 (I'm interested in checking out Helix-Gnome and know that 6.3 is what is supported).
Is it easier to just get a CD from CheapBytes (or LSL) and let the install overwrite all the core packages, or should I ftp specific packages and install from root?
The underlying question is this: when I use a CD of just the OS (a la LSL), what gets overwritten besides core packages? Do I need to backup my desktop and restore it after the install?
And what *isn't* on the cheap CDs that I would want to purchase a full upgrade?
Thanx for putting up with the newbie... ;->
