Today I scaned all files on disk (SuSE 6.4) with with AntiVir/Linux Version 6.0.0.2 and received 3 messages about infected files:
/lib/modules/2.2.14/fs/nfsd.o size 63543 VIRUS: file contains a signature of the virus 'W95/Hanta'
lib/modules/2.2.14/ipv6/ipv6.o size 135058 VIRUS: file contains a signature of the virus 'W95/Hanta'
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/2.95.2/libgpc.a size 196650 VIRUS: file contains a signature of the virus 'W95/Hanta'
Are this files realy infected? All files are original from SuSE CD's.
Well, if they were Word files I would say yes. I believe W95/Hanta is a Word95 macro virus so what has happened is antivir has just coincidentally noticed a similarity in your libraries. I think it's just a false positive. There's really no need to scan your Linux files as no Win virus so far writes to ext2 filesystems.
