I've got an IDE HP Colorado running on SuSE 6.3 with 2.2.14 kernel. The drive gets recognised alright - but I can't write anything to tape (because I don't have any!! ;-) But I've been assured that as soon as I get tapes everything will be fine. do a cat /var/log/boot.msg You should see the ide-tape device listed (in my case, it is hdc and I access it as /dev/ht0) So, I suggest you pack your bags out of "error city" and check "/var/log city" and see what those beautiful log babes have in store for you, man! <grin> The point I'm making - the device is supported, it should work - if it isn't working, then try not looking at the software and looking at the hardware Perhaps try different tapes.
