Post the contents of your /etc/fstab file.

However, as you clearly had things working once, you probably know all you need to know about playing CDs. Perhaps you could explain what happens when you try to play a CD: do you get an error message for instance?
'Unable to mount device /cdrom' is the error message I get from wmcdplay. Hopefully this is not a wmcdplay issue.
Are you sure /cdrom is still symlinked to /dev/hdc (or whichever device your CDROM is at)? AFAIR you can also configure wmcdplay to access any appropriate device instead of /cdrom.
