Nope - didn't work using: cat *.tar | tar xv It only extracts the first archive! And the solution by Panos didn't work neither: find . '*.tar' -exec tar -xvf{}\; Says missing argument after -exec no matter how I format the paramater!! i.e., the equivelent to: tar xvf *.tar
