Probably best to check the manufacturer's warranty on the drive - nobody is going to give say a 3-yr warranty on unreliable kit. Also make sure the Not so. Western Digital is a good example of this. Theirs was a 3 year warranty. Both I and a friend had the misfortune of buying 3 GB drives in 1997. At the beginning of 1998, they both died and were replaced under the warranty. The really bad part of this is

(When I can order what I want, I lean towards IBM or Quantumm. Down here IBM drives are great. So far I haven't had any trouble with them and the speed is very good.
