There seems to be a consensus on this long thread! Don't split the SuSE mailing list. If it was split - you'd miss the tips and solutions you didn't really set out to find! You'd miss the "Oh, I've always wondered how you do that" factor if you didn't subscribe to that particular list. There is nothing wrong with implementing a little bit of mail filtering to categorise on the client side, not the server side. BTW - If I feel its worth it, and I get a lot of interest I might put forward an idea to my collegues of thelinuxwebsite.com to include a section of SuSE mailing list that is put into sections for the people who want to search the archives by topic. In fact, if there is a lot of interest I might do it anyway as I'm second in command and I'm biased towards SuSE!! I concur with Christopher.
Sadly, I don't. If this list were forked into multiple segments, one would have to subscribe to all of them to get the benefits we enjoy as one list. Then, not only do users have to think about which list they post to, but volunteers have to monitor the traffic to ensure that the user posts to the proper list for his/her question. This leads to time issues as well as traffic issues, and I can't recall the number of messages with URGENT in the subject or body since I joined over a year ago. This is not acceptable, either.
Yes, at current levels I'm finding it fairly easy to keep up with this
list
along with others. As long as people use appropriate subjects then it's not all that necessary to use different lists for different subjects.

Good point Greg, anything that has the subject line "HELP!" gets automatically chewed by my filter. It would be better reworded "Help: Netscape pre6 core dump on 2.2.13 x86 kernel!"
