I've installed Netscape 6 and it is running just fine. I still can't get to that URL I was having problems with. I am now thinking it may be a DNS problem.
Is running named required for a ppp connection?
Negative, all you need to do is put your nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf, and make sure you have a search mindspring.com or whatever your dialups domain name is. I have tried netscape 6 and it is much improved in looks at least. It is sluggish, consumes quite a bit of memory (35MB on avg), but it has not crashed, yet. I am happy for now.

Never fight with a pig. You both get covered with mud, and the pig likes it.
