And still then it is hard to do. I use swat too sometimes, but even if I do it with swat (which IS easier) I sometimes have no clue why my host doesn't show up in my network neighborhood or won't let me in. It takes some time puzzling it out and after a while, I get it working, but I can imagine some users not beeing able to create a simple share. Rogier Samy Elashmawy wrote:

Now that's an understatement if ever I saw one ;-) My experience shows

at least for a newbie, it's not that simple to set up. But it ain't that hard either. One just has to read the available documentation and then it should be fairly straight forward.

Okay then, why doesn't SuSE make a decent Samba-setup tool/script? I think this is not hard for someone who knows samba, and I'm sure it will help a lot of newbies and sysadmins to setup a Samba-server.
For instance, when I install Samba, I just want to share a directory. Not to browse the howto's -again- and read and read. I want to tell my box what its name is, its workgroup, what directory it should share and what the sharename should be. In the 'advanced' (well, maybe not that advaned), I want to be able to specify the rights, but I'd say: RO for the default sharing permissions, permissions on share-level.
Would this be an idea for the next release? (6.5 that is)
Greetz,
