Hi, I have some (big?) problems using my Elsa Microlink 56k USB modem using the Kernel 2.3.51 (running on a SuSE 6.2 'Light' from a magazine). The USB-Code recognizes my modem correctly, with minicom I can get a connection to my provider. But there are two problems: 1) pppd prints the following error message: ioctl(TIOCSETD(PPP)): Invalid argument(22) pppd: This system lacks kernel support for PPP. This could be because the PPP kernel module could not be loaded, or because PPP was not included in the kernel configuration. If PPP was included as a module, try `/sbin/modprobe -v ppp'. If that fails, check t I've compiled PPP-support into the kernel, as static or as module, and it never worked. What does the first line mean? 2) wvdial isn't able to connect to the provider: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.41 --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT --> Modem not responding. (normally its sending ATZ, but that doesn't work, too) BUT one of these tries ended up as follows: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.41 --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT AT OK --> Sending: AT S0=0 L1 Q0 V1 E1 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0 AT S0=0 L1 Q0 V1 E1 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Sending: ATDT 8699906 --> Waiting for carrier. ATDT 8699906 CONNECT 46666 V42bis --> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately. --> Starting pppd at Wed Mar 29 13:10:00 2000 --> PPP daemon has died! (exit code = 4) --> Disconnecting at Wed Mar 29 13:10:00 2000 --> Auto Reconnect will be attempted in 5 seconds --> pppd error! Look at files in /var/log for an explanation. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT AT OK --> Sending: AT S0=0 L1 Q0 V1 E1 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0 AT S0=0 L1 Q0 V1 E1 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT --> Modem not responding. Returning not ok!! --> Disconnecting at Wed Mar 29 13:10:16 2000 My /etc/wvdial.conf: [Dialer Defaults] Username = <username> Modem = /dev/ttyACM0 Password = <password> Init1 = AT Init2 = AT S0=0 L1 Q0 V1 E1 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0 Compuserve = 0 Tonline = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Phone = 8699906 Baud = 38400 Auto DNS = 1 Stupid Mode = 1 New PPPD = 1 (snipped out username and password :-) /etc/ppp/options: lock debug Any suggestions? I've read that it worked with this modem, but not on my computer :-( Thanx, Robert. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
