Jon, I havent solved the problem :-( . I did try anonymous login and it works! Normal users are still unable to login. Craig

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. It's just me being completely daft. :-( It's inetd that starts ftpd when someone tries to connect. I definately need some coffee.
